Wiki In Africa’s Wiki Loves Africa 2021 edition, themed ‘’Health+Wellness’’ ended on April 30th 2021, but that’s not the only Wiki project that profiles and supports photographers.
For the second edition of Wiki Africa Hour: The lowdown on Commons host, Ceslause Ogbonnaya, had a range of guests who have been involved in community programmes encouraging contribution to and additional usage of images on Commons. Guests included Sadik Shahadu (Project coordinator for Wiki Loves Earth, Ghana), Isaac Olatunde (Project Manager and Coordinator for Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos), Minette Lantsie (Coordinator of Nos Jardins in Cameroun), and Anas Adam (Co-founder of Nigerian Commons Photographers User Group).
The aim of inviting these above-mentioned guests was to highlight the role photography plays within the Wikimedia context.
- Sadik Shahadu from Wiki Loves Earth, Ghana, highlighted Wiki Loves Earth as another wiki opportunity for photographers beside Wiki Loves Africa
- Isaac Olatunde from Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos campaign explained how these photos gathered through Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Earth, etc, are being put to encyclopedic use.
- Minette Lantsie, from Nos Jardins, Cameroun, gives insight on available international photography training that photographers could benefit from, including newbies in photography.
- Anas Adam from Nigerian Commons Photographers User Group, gives details about the wiki community that exists for photographers, with the aim of exchanging upskilling ideas and maintaining synergy amongst photographers
